Welcome to Dive Gear Reviews, a comprehensive guide to scuba diving equipment. Scuba diving is an expensive pursuit, so looking up reviews for a particular article of equipment is a wise precaution before investing any hard-earned money in it. However, consumer reviews may or may not be written by an experienced diver, and magazine reviews could be suspect due to the advertising ties of the publication in question. Dive Gear Reviews provides cross-referenced reviews assembled by an expert, making it possible to see at a glance what multiple sources said about a particular piece of scuba equipment. If one magazine loved a scuba regulator or a dive computer, but the consumers hated it, that information will be found here.

Cressi Elipse MC9 Black Scuba Regulator Review

Written by Dive Gear Reviews Editor. Comments Off on Cressi Elipse MC9 Black Scuba Regulator Review Posted in: Between $251-$500, Scuba Regulators

Those Italians over at Cressi have designed another winner, as the Elipse MC9 Black has met with rave reviews from consumers who loved it’s easy breathing qualities. This regulator set combines the MC9 first stage with the Elipse Balanced second stage. The MC9 unit has a variety of corrosion-resistant features and a hyperbalanced design, which in theory lightens breathing effort as the demand for air increases. The second stage is also balanced, with the overall package delivering consistent performance over a range of tank pressures and depths. The Cressi Elipse MC9 Black aced its laboratory and field testing, and exceeds European safety standards by a wide margin.

One downside is that Scuba Diving reported that water entered the second stage in field testing when the test diver swam into some unorthodox positions. Cressi says fitting the second stage with a larger exhaust tee solves this problem, and in any case it would only come up if you like going upside down to stick your head into the nooks of a reef or shipwreck. It comes with 2 HP and 4 LP ports, is nitrox compatible up to 40% oxygen, and is very lightweight for a regulator operating at such a high level of performance.
