Welcome to Dive Gear Reviews, a comprehensive guide to scuba diving equipment. Scuba diving is an expensive pursuit, so looking up reviews for a particular article of equipment is a wise precaution before investing any hard-earned money in it. However, consumer reviews may or may not be written by an experienced diver, and magazine reviews could be suspect due to the advertising ties of the publication in question. Dive Gear Reviews provides cross-referenced reviews assembled by an expert, making it possible to see at a glance what multiple sources said about a particular piece of scuba equipment. If one magazine loved a scuba regulator or a dive computer, but the consumers hated it, that information will be found here.

Tusa IQ-850 DC Sapience II Dive Computer Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Tusa IQ-850 DC Sapience II Dive Computer Review Posted in: Dive Computers, Over $500

Tusa’s IQ-850 Sapience II is a wristwatch dive computer of the big, square console style, as opposed to the discrete wristwatch style. The dive computer also builds on the old IQ-800 model, so many of the design features are already well-proven. The first thing a diver should notice about the IQ-850 is that it is […]

The D6 is Suunto’s middle dive computer entry, placed between the advanced trimix-oriented D9 and the functional D4, making it a sporty wristwatch computer with advanced recreational/basic technical diving capability. The computer is nitrox-capable and programmable for two mixtures of up to 99%, and can switch between gas profiles in mid-dive. The data crunching is […]

Zeagle Zeus Scuba BCD Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Zeagle Zeus Scuba BCD Review Posted in: BCDs, Over $500

The Zeagle Zeus is a travel BCD featuring some very innovative ideas, but as sometimes happens, those innovations turned off some consumers in the diving community. The key innovation (and the root of the complaints) is the BCD’s replacement of a cummerbund or belt with a zippered pad. This pad covers most of the abdomen, […]

Mares Kaila AT Scuba BCD Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Mares Kaila AT Scuba BCD Review Posted in: BCDs, Over $500

The Kaila is a women’s BCD, and Mares bills it as a practical fashion accessory for female divers. The basic idea that defines all women’s BCDs is to tailor the design so it is more comfortable on the typical female frame, something that buying a normal BCD in a smaller size usually fails to accomplish, […]

Cressi S300 Scuba BCD Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Cressi S300 Scuba BCD Review Posted in: BCDs, Over $500

Cressi’s latest pro-level BCD, the S300 is a roomy, high-lift piece of gear, making it a logical choice for cold water divers encumbered with dry suits and thick wet suits. The S300’s air bladders are distributed around the sides and the back, and provide between 21 and 52 lbs (9.7 and 23.5 kg) of lift, […]

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Mares Abyss Navy 22 Scuba Regulator Posted in: Over $500, Scuba Regulators

The Abyss Navy 22 was designed by Mares to build on past versions of the Abyss and create a rugged regulator capable of performing in the worst cold water conditions, and it certainly lives up to those specifications. The regulator passed the US Navy’s tests and has since been included on its list of dive […]

Scubapro Seahawk Scuba BCD Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Scubapro Seahawk Scuba BCD Review Posted in: BCDs, Over $500

Scubapro’s Seahawk BCD builds on the success of their much-loved Knighthawk, so much so that some consumers labeled it a “Knighthawk with more pockets.” That captures the idea, even if it understates the case quite a bit. The Seahawk enjoys the same tough 1000 denier nylon construction as the Knighthawk, as well as other similar […]

Tusa IQ 950 Zen Air Dive Computer Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Tusa IQ 950 Zen Air Dive Computer Review Posted in: Dive Computers, Over $500

For some reason, reviewers call Tusa’s IQ 950 Zen Air a “sleek” wristwatch dive computer, but at Dive Gear Reviews, calling a dive computer “sleek” demands something more than a mere digital sports watch readout. On this point, we profoundly disagree with everyone and think only a serious gear nerd thinks this wristwatch would look […]

Zeagle Stiletto Scuba BCD Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Zeagle Stiletto Scuba BCD Review Posted in: BCDs, Over $500

Zeagle’s Stiletto BCD is a fine example of a general purpose piece of recreational diving equipment. With a dry weight of 7.4 lbs (3.35 kg), the Stiletto isn’t as light as a true travel BCD, nor is it as collapsible, but it isn’t so heavy that it will tip a wisely packed bag of dive […]

Mares Hybrid Scuba BCD Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Mares Hybrid Scuba BCD Review Posted in: BCDs, Over $500

Mares touts the Hybrid as the apex of their BCD line. The BCD is based on a collapsible, folding frame, enabling the diver to pack the BCD up into a very compact unit for travel. If that sounds uncomfortable, Mares makes the Hybrid with a suspension system inspired by hiking backpacks for better weight distribution. […]

Mares Dragon AT Scuba BCD Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Mares Dragon AT Scuba BCD Review Posted in: BCDs, Over $500

The Mares Dragon AT has two stand-out features. The first and signature feature of the Mares Dragon is its winged air cell design, with the cells inflating around the tank in a fashion designed to reduce drag. Those air cells provide up to 56 lbs of lift in the biggest versions of this BCD. The […]

Oceanic Neo Scuba Regulator Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Oceanic Neo Scuba Regulator Review Posted in: Over $500, Scuba Regulators

The thing to be aware of with Oceanic’s Neo scuba regulator is that “Neo” actually encompasses several possible product combinations. A Neo could have a CDX-5  or a FDX-10 first stage, with differing levels of performance. The latter scored as highly as Oceanic’s Delta 4.2 on breathing machine tests, and therefore offers the potential to […]

Nauticam NA-79 Underwater Camera Housing Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Nauticam NA-79 Underwater Camera Housing Review Posted in: Over $500, Underwater Cameras

Oceanic OC1 Dive Computer Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Oceanic OC1 Dive Computer Review Posted in: Dive Computers, Over $500

The OC1 from Oceanic is a wristwatch style dive computer that, unlike so many wrist-mounted number crunchers, actually looks like a wristwatch and a fairly attractive one at that.
