Welcome to Dive Gear Reviews, a comprehensive guide to scuba diving equipment. Scuba diving is an expensive pursuit, so looking up reviews for a particular article of equipment is a wise precaution before investing any hard-earned money in it. However, consumer reviews may or may not be written by an experienced diver, and magazine reviews could be suspect due to the advertising ties of the publication in question. Dive Gear Reviews provides cross-referenced reviews assembled by an expert, making it possible to see at a glance what multiple sources said about a particular piece of scuba equipment. If one magazine loved a scuba regulator or a dive computer, but the consumers hated it, that information will be found here.

Intova Sport 10K Underwater Camera Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Intova Sport 10K Underwater Camera Review Posted in: Below $100, Underwater Cameras

Intova is well-known for it’s inexpensive underwater cameras, often providing the budget alternative in each category of dive camera. For a long time, the cheap, no-frills end of the Intova line was their CP series of camera, the latest being the CP-9. Now that line is joined by the Sport 10K, which although just as […]

Ikelite 6242 Underwater Houseing for Canon Powershot S110 Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Ikelite 6242 Underwater Houseing for Canon Powershot S110 Review Posted in: Between $251-$500, Underwater Cameras

Almost all divers want to take pictures to remind them of their underwater adventures, and would-be underwater photographers generally fall into two categories: the scuba version of the average joe, who wants a point-and-shoot (POS) camera for underwater use; and the hardcore shutterbug or gadget-lover who wants a professional quality camera, tricked out with doo-dads. […]

Watershot iPhone 4 Underwater Housing Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Watershot iPhone 4 Underwater Housing Review Posted in: Below $100, Other Accessories, Underwater Cameras

The iPhone4 Underwater Housing from Watershot is exactly that: an aftermarket housing that converts an iPhone into a workable underwater camera. This separates it from the Scuba Capsule, which comes with an app designed to covert your iPhone into a dive computer. The Watershot accessory is basically just like any aftermarket underwater camera housing, except […]

Sealife ReefMaster Mini II Underwater Camera Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Sealife ReefMaster Mini II Underwater Camera Review Posted in: Between $251-$500, Underwater Cameras

Sealife’s new ReefMaster Mini builds on their solid pocket dive camera, the Mini II. The new version retains the same rubberized, shock-proof underwater housing, but now with distinctive red trim and, more importantly, an improved depth rating of 200 feet (60m). The Mini II’s depth rating is 130 feet (40m), so taking it on deep […]

Comparing Point-and-Shoot Underwater Cameras

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Comparing Point-and-Shoot Underwater Cameras Posted in: Dive Gear Tips, Scuba Product Guides, Underwater Cameras

Intova vs. Sealife vs. Sea and Sea Most divers out there are not looking to compete with Stephen Frink for regular appearances in the pages of National Geographic and Scuba Diving, and therefore they are not interested in taking a professional-grade Nikon, marrying it to an aftermarket housing, attaching powerful lamps to it and creating […]

Updated March 19, 2013 Most scuba divers acquire and replace equipment on a budget, and some budgets are more expansive than others. While most divers shop on either the basis of the best gear for the least cost, or even the lowest cost outright, some divers enjoy much more expansive budgets. Also, non-divers are often […]

Scuba Capsule Dive Gear Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Scuba Capsule Dive Gear Review Posted in: Between $251-$500, Dive Computers, Underwater Cameras

Scuba diving is a sport long on gear, but short on gadgets. Excepting dive computers, the sport is full of valves, hoses and nozzles rather than electronics. Even dive computers, with their dot matrix digital read-outs, are usually clunky and functional rather than sleek and laden with geeky features. The Scuba Capsule changes all of […]

Sealife DC1400 Underwater Camera Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Sealife DC1400 Underwater Camera Review Posted in: Over $500, Underwater Cameras

The Sealife DC1400 builds on the success of its predecessor, the DC1200, with both the camera and the underwater housing each receiving one major improvement. The camera has been upgraded to 14 megapixels, as implied by the name (Sealife’s DC series code has always been keyed to the megapixel capability of the camera). This also […]

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Ikelite 6801.70 Underwater Housing for the Nikon D-7000 Review Posted in: Over $500, Underwater Cameras

Ikelite enjoys a solid reputation for producing the kind of high quality underwater housings that turn upper-end, but otherwise land-based cameras into dive cameras, and the Ikelite 6801.70 is no exception. The clear polycarbonate housing is tough and has a depth rating of 200 feet (60 m), and the 6801.70 is built so that every […]

Nauticam NA-79 Underwater Camera Housing Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Nauticam NA-79 Underwater Camera Housing Review Posted in: Over $500, Underwater Cameras

The package is far more than a casual diver or photographer needs, but for a diver looking to nip at Stephen Frink’s heels, the NA-79/Canon 7D is not a bad set to work with.

The Intova CP9 dive camera is a classic example of the maxim “you get what you pay for.” It is a compact, handy camera with a price tag that hovers right around $90 (although the camera is often marked up considerably in Europe). The CP9 is also rated for depths of 130 feet/39 meters. Very […]

Underwater Camera Guide (Casual Scuba Divers)

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Underwater Camera Guide (Casual Scuba Divers) Posted in: Dive Gear Tips, Scuba Product Guides, Underwater Cameras

Casual scuba divers buying an underwater camera often find choosing a camera to be a confusing proposition. Given the price tag, the selection of an underwater camera might even become discouraging. However, it doesn’t need to be that way. Only divers looking to follow in the footsteps of underwater photography gurus like Stephen Frink need […]
