Welcome to Dive Gear Reviews, a comprehensive guide to scuba diving equipment. Scuba diving is an expensive pursuit, so looking up reviews for a particular article of equipment is a wise precaution before investing any hard-earned money in it. However, consumer reviews may or may not be written by an experienced diver, and magazine reviews could be suspect due to the advertising ties of the publication in question. Dive Gear Reviews provides cross-referenced reviews assembled by an expert, making it possible to see at a glance what multiple sources said about a particular piece of scuba equipment. If one magazine loved a scuba regulator or a dive computer, but the consumers hated it, that information will be found here.

Henderson H2 3mm Shorty Wetsuit Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Henderson H2 3mm Shorty Wetsuit Review Posted in: Between $101-$250, Wetsuits

Shorty wetsuits are worn for two reasons: staying warm in warm water, conditions in which many divers get by with a t-shirt; and for some protection against jellyfish stings. As thin, short-sleeved and short-legged wetsuits, the main issue for a shorty is offering a fit that is snug, but not too tight. The outfit is […]

The IST Super Stretch 3mm is a wetsuit that delivers flexibility and above average warmth for a suit in its class. Cressi Spring 3.5mm Wetsuit Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Cressi Spring 3.5mm Wetsuit Review Posted in: Between $101-$250, Wetsuits

Cressi has a new wetsuit for warm-to-temperate waters (basically, waters in the 70s F/lower-to-mid 20s C), the Spring 3.5 mm. For most divers, a 3.5mm wetsuit is the most desired type, since most divers live in places with either mildly warm or tropically warm water, and almost all divers like traveling to places with tropically […]

Best “Semi-Dry” Wetsuits

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Best “Semi-Dry” Wetsuits Posted in: Dive Gear Tips, Scuba Product Guides, Wetsuits

Some divers gripe there is no such thing as a “semi-dry” suit, and while the term is oxymoronic, it is no more so than “fresh frozen” or “virtually spotless.” As a practical matter, semi-dry wetsuits are at the top of the wetsuit range, including the thickest and best-sealed wetsuits available. Expect any suit sporting the […]

Body Glove EXO 7mm Scuba Wetsuit Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Body Glove EXO 7mm Scuba Wetsuit Review Posted in: Between $251-$500, Wetsuits

The EXO 7mm is Body Glove’s high-end “semi-dry” suit. The suit is made from Body Glove’s Magna-Flex, a soft, lightweight and stretchy type of neoprene, and put together with triple-glued blind-stitching. For extra waterproofing, the interior seams are permanently taped. However, this attention to the seams is easily counterbalanced by the equal lack of attention […]

Bare 7mm Elastek Full Wetsuit Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Bare 7mm Elastek Full Wetsuit Review Posted in: Between $251-$500, Wetsuits

The Bare 7mm Elastek Full wetsuit is one of two extreme exposure suits in Bare’s Elastek line. It should not be confused with the 7mm Elastek Semi-Dry wetsuit, which has markedly superior seals. By contrast, the 7mm Elastek Full is a fairly straightforward wetsuit. The “Elastek” in the title refers to the type of neoprene […]

Oceanic Ultra 7mm Scuba Wetsuit Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Oceanic Ultra 7mm Scuba Wetsuit Review Posted in: Between $101-$250, Wetsuits

The 7mm is the thickest and warmest wetsuit in Oceanic’s Ultra line. In terms of cold water exposure suits, however, the Oceanic Ultra 7mm is far from the warmest 7mm wetsuit around. However, the suit does offer serious bang for the buck. The Ultra 7mm uses the combination of thick and stretchy neoprene panels, typical of […]

Beuchat Semi-Dry Comfort 6.5mm Wetsuit Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Beuchat Semi-Dry Comfort 6.5mm Wetsuit Review Posted in: Between $251-$500, Wetsuits

As Beuchat is a French company, and even France’s Mediterranean coastal waters are not exactly warm, one might expect that it puts out top-notch wetsuits. The Semi-Dry Comfort is no exception. The suit is a one-piece made from 6.5 mm Elaskin neoprene with a plush interior liner. The construction is flexible and stretchy, so the […]

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Waterproof W2 7mm Scuba Wetsuit Review Posted in: Between $251-$500, Wetsuits

Waterproof’s W2 7mm wetsuit is essentially a thicker version of its 5mm wetsuit. Waterproof W2 5mm Scuba Wetsuit Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Waterproof W2 5mm Scuba Wetsuit Review Posted in: Between $251-$500, Wetsuits

Waterproof is basically the exposure suit subsidiary of Tusa, and the W2 wetsuit line covers their cool- and cold-water wetsuits for both men and women. Scubapro Nova Scotia 6.5 mm Wetsuit Review

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Scubapro Nova Scotia 6.5 mm Wetsuit Review Posted in: Between $251-$500, Wetsuits

The Nova Scotia is an example of a “semi-drysuit,” or a thick wetsuit that uses seals borrowed from drysuits to improve the restriction of water circulation through the suit. The suit is made mostly from 6.5 mm of neoprene, with Scubapro’s Everflex material used to make the suit panels behind the knees, under the arms […]

Neosport 5mm Farmer John and Jacket Combo Wetsuit

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Neosport 5mm Farmer John and Jacket Combo Wetsuit Posted in: Between $101-$250, Wetsuits

Neosport makes reasonably priced wetsuits for divers, paddlers and triathletes. Given that spread, it goes without saying that Neosport’s products lack wetsuit features like waterproof zippers or ankle, wrist or neck seals, the sort of features that start to appear on scuba wetsuits at the 5mm level. The company’s 5mm Farmer John and Jacket are […]

A one-piece full bodysuit made from 7mm Ultraspan neoprene forms the core of the wetsuit, with a vertical water-resistant zipper up the back. The wrists are sealed with a double cuff system consisting of […]

Product Guide: Wetsuits

Written by Editor. Comments Off on Product Guide: Wetsuits Posted in: Scuba Product Guides, Wetsuits

First and foremost, wearing a wetsuit is about insulting your body. Most wetsuits use a synthetic rubber called neoprene to trap a layer of thin layer of water between your body and the surrounding water. Body heat warms the trapped water, creating more insulation against the cold. Of course, that only works if a there […]

As one would expect from a Body Glove wetsuit, the EX 3 in 3mm is a tough suit with outstanding seals, and a good bargain to boot.
